In 1946 Pablo Picasso created a series of paintings of his lover, and mother of his two children, Françoise Gilot, titled ‘La Femme Fleur’. In the paintings she grew elegantly from the earth, Picasso transformed her hair into a leaf canopy, her face into a flower.

I fell in love with flowers while living in Montmartre, Paris. La Femme Fleur was inspired by my neighbourhood florist, where buckets of flowers lined the streets and bunches of tulips were wrapped in brown paper & tucked under the arms of Parisians.

When I returned to New Zealand, I wanted Aucklanders to do the same. I qualified as a florist and in 2014 I opened my flower truck on the waterfront of Cox’s Bay. In 2021 I made the move to Bloodworth Park in Remuera.
